Results:
Senior B
Killarney Athletic 2 Castlemaine 1
Youths
Killarney Athletic 4 Inter Kenmare 3
For the 2nd week running we went in at half time at 2-0 down despite playing the better soccer but defensive errors cost us dearly. It quickly looked bad at 3-1 with Chris O’Meara making the score line somewhat respectable. A change of tactics from the Management turned things around with Dylan O’Sullivan scoring 2 fine goals to be followed with Chris O’Meara wrapping up the game with his 2nd goal. Lessons can be learned here but credit has to be given for fine performances from Brendan Cronin, Sam Tamir, Danny Healy, Ole Kreibig and Man of the Match to Caiman Mangan. Good all-round match to watch from the sidelines and kudos has to given to the Kenmare lads for their effort on the day.
Under 15 A
Killarney Athletic 4 Mastergeeha 1
The under15s had a great day last Saturday with both teams winning their local derbies. First up were the 1st Team who were away to Mastergeeha in the national Cup with and away trip to Kilmallock United awaiting the winners. Athletic started brightly but couldn’t break down the Geeha defence despite numerous attempts that is until a quick Shane O’Connor throw to Padraig O’Brien resulted in Padraig passing 3 players and beating the keeper with an unstoppable shot into the near post. In fact Shane O’Connor and Padraig O’Brien set up goal number 2 with the two of them combining to pull back to David Shaw who slipped the ball into the bottom corner of the net on the stroke of half time to let the blues go in 2 -0 up at half time. The majority of the possession played in the Geeha half. Geeha came out guns blazing in the second half but Joe Glinwood set up Padraig O’Brien on the counter to make it 3-0. Geeha then got one back to set up a close finish. Athletic were reduced to 10 men (2 bookables) to ensure a tight finish but Aaron Foley had other ideas and scored a great goal. In the dying moments, Geeha got a consolidation goal but Athletic march on to the next round.
Killarney Athletic B 2 Killarney Celtic B 1
The under 15 2nd team played local rivals Killarney Celtic at home. With both teams tight at the back, no team was willing to give an inch to let the score 0-0 at half time despite Athletic with a great chance hitting the crossbar. In the second half, Athletic’s fitness was evident and attacked more and won a penalty. Ciaran Kennedy stepped up to give Athletic the lead. Patryk Barthy then scored on the counter to let us 2-0 up. With time running out, Celtic got a penalty which was saved by keeper Rory O’Carroll only for Celtic to score the rebound. Too little, too late though and Athletic take all 3 points in the local derby. Best for Athletic were Donal O’Sullivan, Ciaran Kennedy and Rory O’Carroll
Under 13
Hard luck to the under 13s who went down to Aisling Annacotty in the National Cup.
Under 11
Killarney Athletic 1 Killorglin 1
Both teams could have won this game but a draw was deserved. Well done.
