Match Report U15 Cup; St Brendans Park 3-2 Killarney Athletic
Played on the KDL all weather field, the lads were unlucky to lose to a strong Park side who are second in the Premier division & led by former Athletic stalwart Ger O’Brien. Athletic started well with a very strong in defence with O’Callaghan doing well in his first start of the year. Tynan who had double duty for the match had a superb game in goal in the first half & made a number of telling saves, while Komosa, O’Brien & O’Shaughnessey all did well early on. Lee playing a deeper role was influencing the game a lot & made a number of telling interceptions in the first half. The loss of McCann early was a big blow & but a reshuffle with Benson going to left back & Moynihan going up front relieved pressure somewhat & it was Benson who had a superb game, really took the fight to the Park. However pressure told as Park scored twice in the third last & last minute of the half in a crushing blow from which the lads were hard done by in the lead up. Into the second half, O’Sullivan who was excellent throughout was denied by an amazing save by the keeper. However Minutes later Horgan scored from a difficult angle after being set up by a excellent Mulvanney. However Park scored again soon after after a defensive mix up led to a good finish. Again to Athletic’s credit they did not give up & were unlucky not to be awarded a penalty when a corner was flicked on & the defender appeared to handle in the box & other chances went a begging. However a super free kick from Lee put the score at 3-2 & Park were rattled. Another penalty shout was wrongly seen as a dive & despite the best efforts of Osieba, The returning Pierce & Tynan at the back Athletic could not find an equaliser. This was another great team performance & coupled with the three regulars who were missing & the loss of two key players during the game there was no shame in the result as Athletic now look to the shield.
