With the unavailability of many under 17 and youth players, we were forced to rely on many of or under 16 players to ensure a squad. In fact, despite having 4 goalkeepers at under 17/18 level, we were forced to rely on under 16 back up keeper Sean Boyne as Nelu got injured Friday evening. Sean did a tremendous job and Athletic have him to thank for some outstanding saves. The game itself Athletic were on top in possession stakes and attacked in the Geeha half for long spells but credit to Geeha, they were very strong in defence and took their chances well to ensure Athletic were not to have any joy on the day. Best for Athletic Sean Boyne and Eamonn Lavin who had a never say die attitude. With just the cups to play for, we will need all players to ensure a good cup run.
r boys had to be in top form to get anything from this fixture. From the 1st whistle the killarney boys got on top and played lovely soccer. The Doolan brothers Shane and Jamie along with Danny Healy bossed midfield, while Shane lynch and Chris O Meara were moving well up front, Cillian Fitzgerald and Ciaman Mangan were raiding down the wings putting Listowel on the back foot. We scored our 1st goal on the stroke of half time when a Cillian Fitzgerald shot was finished to the net by O’Meara. A fast start to the 2nd half from athletic and 2nd goal from Chris put us in a great position and a superb 25 yard free kick from Shane Doolan that 6 goalkeepers wouldn’t have got to was the icing on the cake. Reilly Crowley and O’Regan were in top form at the back while Rafa dealt confidently with anything thrown at him. Easily our boys best performance of the season and well done to all players and subs.Killarney Athletic Website: Please check the website onwww.killarneyathletic.com or facebook for match reports, club information and contact details.
