FAI Junior Cup
Killarney Athletic 2 Avenue Utd 4 After extra time
Our senior team put on a terrific display against the top Clare side in Woodlawn. The highly fancied Avenue team made a bright start and struck early from a wonder strike but the boys in blue battled back brilliantly and got a deserved equaliser through Brian O’Reilly in the 90th minute to send game to extra time. It was a cracking contest with both teams playing some fine passages of play. The Clare boys got in for 2 fast goals. A missed penalty from Brian O’Reilly seemed to kill our final hope and as we chased after the game left ourselves open on the counter attack. Lubo scored to bring the game back into the melting pot but we finally ran out of steam and time. Best for Athletic were Martin Crowley, Ryan O’Carroll, David Sheerin and Mike Lindsay.
