Results:
Senior A
Killarney Athletic 5 Listowel Celtic 1
A super 1st half performance saw us go in at 3-0 up at the break away to Listowel Celtic. Stubborn resistance was overcome in the 2nd half to see us run out comfortable 5-1 winners with Cian Tobin, Shane Bunyhan, Denis Galvin, Lukas Polyack and the prolific Mike Lindsey the scorers with Quill and Fitzgerald turning in excellent displays .
Under 15
Killarney Athletic 9 Charleville 0
A hat trick from Joe Glinwood inside the first 6 minutes set the tempo for the game. Further goals (2) from David Shaw ensured the half time score 5-0. With all subs introduced at half time, further goals were added by David Shaw (2), Aaron Foley and Padraig O’Brien ensured a comfortable win for Athletic who face Mashergeeha in the next round. Great all round performance by everyone. A big thank you to the partents for supplying the post match refreshments and Dominos Pizza for supplying the pizzas.
Under 13 National Cup
Killarney Athletic 2 Ennis Town 0
Athletic made the long journey to Ennis last Saturday morning for an 11.30 start and came home with a fine victory over the local town side. Played in the Clare County Ground, which was in excellent condition, Athletic settled to their task early and had the better of the opening exchanges but the home side started to exert some pressure which Athletic soaked up. Jason Coffey then broke up-field to gain a corner and relieve some pressure, and from the resulting corner Athletic were one up after the ball was only half cleared and Reece Hegarty turned and hit an unstoppable shot high into the Ennis net. Athletic now had their tails up and pressed hard for a second before half time but found the Ennis goalkeeper in fine form. The second half was a ding-dong battle with both sides going close. Athletic introduced some fresh legs in the shape of Finbarr Hickey and Kieran Thompson and this seemed to spur Athletic on with Liam Curran pulling the strings in midfield. With the game in the balance, Athletic 'keeper Jonathan Mee pulled off a fantastic save as Ennis pushed for an equalizing goal. However as the game moved into injury time, Ruari O’Keefe ended any hope for Ennis as he again scored from the edge of the box, just as he had done last week to give Athletic a fine away win. Overall a great team performance from Athletic. As well as the aforementioned, others to perform well were David O’Mahony; Shane Trant; Gary Vaughan; Sean O’Neill; Jack Sweeney and John Joe Buckley.
Under 11
Killarney Athletic 5 St Brendan’s Park 2
Our under 11s had a fantastic outing against park on Saturday resulting with a 5-2 win. With a very promising under 11 team for the future they were outstanding performances throughout the whole squad. We had a nervy start but 10 minutes into the game the boys started to dominate. We took the lead through an early Jack Cooper goal. With passing & movement going well Robert O’Shea hit a brilliant goal from outside the box. Park pulled one back although it should have been a free out as keeper Eoin Moynihan was fouled. Park were putting on bit of pressure but our centre backs Eoghan O’Sullivan & Brogan O’Flaherty & 2 wing backs Evan Looney & Owen Benson were solid in the tackling & kept everything tight at the back. 20 minutes into the game our centre midfielder Emmet Finnan hit a wonder goal into top left corner from 20 yards out. Jack Cooper & Lawrence O’Donoghue were causing major problems for the park defence with excellent passing & were unlucky with a few chances. The second half saw park make few changes and looked to attack more but with Eoin Moynihan between the posts it wasn’t going to be any easy day for park to score as he was in super form & kept out 3 really good efforts early in the second half, 10 minutes into the second half Park got their second goal but credit to our boys who recovered really well & kicked on and started to attack more & more. With our team making subs regularly it showed no weakness on our game which was good to see. Emmet Cronin was impressive up the wing from wing back & made superb cross for the head of Lawrence O’Donoghue but was unlucky as it went over the bar, the boys at this stage were really enjoying it & it showed as their performance on the day went from strength to strength. Eoghan O’Sullivan hit a lovely goal in off the right post to put us up by 2 up with 10 minutes to go but the boys were still not happy with that as they attacked & attacked, Simon Barthiewz went on a mazy dribble that took him past 3 defenders in a tight space but was unlucky as his shot was blocked on the line. We finished very strong & our 5thgoal came through a 5 man move including Eoin O’Sullivan, Adam Carey, Evan Looney, Lawrence O’Donoghue & Robert O’Shea, this game was the first sign of what this Under 11 team is capable of doing, excellent day from the boys who were supported by a lot of parents on a nice sunny day. Team, Eoin Moynihan, Evan Looney, Eoghan O’Sullivan, Brogan Flaherty, Owen Benson, Emmet Finnan, Robert O’Shea, Jack Cooper, Lawrence O’Donoghue, Simon Barthiewz, Emmet Cronin, Adam Carey, Cillian Hickey & Jonathon Kissane
